Learning difficulties and school readiness

Wondering whether your child is ready for school, or why learning is hard for them?

Age: 5–12 years

Every child learns in their own way

Learning difficulties don’t mean a child is lazy or less capable. An assessment shows where the difficulty is – attention, perception, motor skills or language – and how to adapt learning.

School readiness

Before first grade we assess cognitive, emotional, social and motor readiness and give guidance for the last months before school.

This page is informational and does not provide a diagnosis. Every child develops individually.

What you may notice

Signs worth paying attention to

  • Struggles to learn letters and sounds
  • Reads slowly or mixes up letters
  • Writes messily and holds the pencil with difficulty
  • Needs much more time for homework
  • Avoids schoolwork and gives up quickly
  • Seems to know more than they show

A clear next step

What would the first step look like?

  1. Your observations

A conversation about age, daily life and the questions that worry you. Bring concrete examples.

  2. Professional assessment

Looking at your child's needs and recommending further assessment if needed.

  3. Support plan

Explaining the recommendations and agreeing on next steps – at the center and at home.

Parents ask

What do parents ask most?

When is the best time for a readiness assessment?

A few months before enrolment, so there is time for support if needed.
