Early signs of autism

Does your child rarely look you in the eye or not respond to their name?

Age: 1–4 years

Every child is different

Some of these signs also appear in children without autism. What matters is the whole picture – and how early we look at it. Assessment with ADOS-2 and ADI-R at KALINKA is painless, through play and a conversation with you.

Why early?

Early intervention in the first years supports communication and social skills when the brain is most adaptable.

This page is informational and does not provide a diagnosis. Every child develops individually.

What you may notice

Signs worth paying attention to

  • Rarely makes eye contact
  • Doesn't respond when you call their name
  • Doesn't point to show you something interesting
  • Plays the same way, lines up objects
  • Reacts strongly to changes in routine
  • Repeats movements (hand flapping, spinning)
  • Loses words they used before

A clear next step

What would the first step look like?

  1. Your observations

A conversation about age, daily life and the questions that worry you. Bring concrete examples.

  2. Professional assessment

Looking at your child's needs and recommending further assessment if needed.

  3. Support plan

Explaining the recommendations and agreeing on next steps – at the center and at home.

Parents ask

What do parents ask most?

From what age can autism be diagnosed?

Reliable signs can often be recognised around 18–24 months, and assessment is possible earlier if there is concern.

Is the assessment stressful for my child?

No. ADOS-2 is structured observation through play, with the parent present.

What if it isn't autism?

Then you get clear guidance about what you noticed and, if needed, other appropriate support.
